What Makes a Home Gym Feel Like a Retreat, Not an Afterthought
For years, home gyms were whatever space was left over: a room in the basement, a corner of a guest room, a yoga mat hidden under a bed.

Some projects start small and then grow into something incredible. That was the case with this Eden Prairie home addition, which began with a dream of installing a golf simulator and ended up transforming the entire family’s living space.
The homeowner came to Titus Contracting after doing research on golf simulators and deciding he wanted one in his home. The only available spot was behind the garage, which sat on a hill. That space worked perfectly for the simulator: but once the design process started, the project began to grow.
The family also needed a new mudroom. Then came a few more realizations: wouldn’t it be nice to move the laundry, wouldn’t another bedroom and bath be great?
After our discussions with the homeowners, we all settled on an addition to the home. On the first floor would be the golf simulator. On the second floor would be a new primary bedroom and bath, mudroom, and laundry room.
What started as a single-room idea turned into a multi-level addition that made the entire home more functional.
Adding a new level to a home comes with unique hurdles. One of the biggest was figuring out how to run plumbing for the new bathroom in the primary suite. The toilet alone required over 100 linear feet of piping, which meant removing parts of the basement to make it work.
Another major challenge was ceiling height. To make the golf simulator space usable, Titus needed to underpin the foundation: digging lower than the existing basement and pouring a whole new foundation. These “necessity features” ensured the new spaces were safe, functional, and built to last.
Throughout the process, we followed Price Pulse program. This is a system where the team pauses to evaluate any changes that might impact the project’s cost or scope. We hold internal meetings first, then walk the client through the options. This keeps communication clear and helps clients decide which features to include. This meant that the changes along the way were never a surprise to our client.

By the end of the project, this Eden Prairie family had:
The addition not only added valuable square footage but also gave the family the functional, private spaces they needed.
